Plan your reception counter before choosing a design

A reception desk needs to work for both the staff behind it and the visitors arriving in front. Choose the layout around the entrance, staff access, equipment and waiting area, as well as the appearance of the front panel.

Straight or L-shaped reception desks

A straight counter can suit a wall or a simpler front-of-house layout. An L-shaped design provides a return surface, but its orientation must leave a practical staff entry route. Confirm the number of staff positions and whether each person needs a monitor, telephone, document space or storage.

Specify the working surface and visitor counter separately

If the design has a raised visitor counter, confirm its height separately from the staff worktop. Include a front view and plan sketch where possible. Discuss a suitable lower interaction point if your project requires one; do not assume every model includes it.

Overall size: send the length, depth, return dimensions and available floor area.
Storage and cables: identify drawers, cupboards, equipment and cable-access requirements.
